The Introduction to the Tourism Management Department

Department of The Tourism Management ,the School of Tourism and Culinary Science ( Food Science and Engineering ) School of Yang zhou University was first built in 1998 , which was a combination of History Department of Normal School of Yang zhou University and Culinary Management of Business School of Yang zhou University . Tourism management department of undergraduate education is set up earlier in Jiangsu Province ( undergraduate admissions from 2000 ) and postgraduate education admissions from 2003 . We have the right to award masters degree to those who apply for it and part-time technical education students .We build the only provincial practical and educational demonstration center in the whole province ------ practical and educational center of modern hotel and tourism management of Yang zhou University . Meanwhile , we also have the base of National Backbone Teachers Training belonging to the Ministry of Education , providing training of tourism management and service , hotel management and service for vocational backbone teachers in the whole country . Now , it is a key construction discipline in Yang zhou University , including 2 undergraduate courses of tourism management and hotel management .

Tourism management department is equipped with a contingent of excellent and exceptional teachers , and we have 24 teachers in the department , 22 of whom have doctoral and masters degree with a percentage of 91.7% . We have 3 professors , 8 associate professors , 11 master supervisors . The structure of our teachers educational background is abundant , and they are respectively graduate from well-known universities and scientific research institutions home and abroad such as University of Plymouth in UK , Paichai University in Korea , Nanjing University , East China Normal University , Nanjing Normal University , Suzhou University and Chinese Academy of Sciences , whose academic background covering management , economics , geography , history and culture , etc . In recent years , we have made great progress in our connotation construction , hosting 5 national fund projects ( 2 national social science projects , 3 national natural science projects ) . In some authoritative periodicals , such as SCI , SSCI , CSSCI and Journal of Geographical and Tourism Tribune , we have issued over 40 papers . In recent lecturing competitions for young and middle-aged teachers of Yangzhou University , we always win the 1st prize . Besides , our teachers also take part in some talented person cultivation projects , such as Young Experts of National Tourism , 333 High-level Talents Projects of Jiangsu Province , Qing-Lan Project of Jiangsu colleges and universities , Advanced talents of Yangzhou University , Lvyang Jinfeng talents of Innovation of Yang zhou City . Our connotation constructions effectively push forward scientific research and talents cultivation projects .

Tourism management is a comprehensively applied course with tourism related to tourism and other industries which enjoy the common industry foundation and related research fields with the feature of comprehensiveness , practicalness and innovativeness . Tourism management plays an important role in inheriting tourism management related to knowledge system , cultivating special talents for tourism industry , promoting sustainable development of tourism , enhancing cross-cultural communications for humanity . It mainly cultivates applied talents who have the basic theory of modern tourism management and specific knowledge and professional skills , also have international horizon , management skills , consciousness of service and the spirit of innovation , can work in related fields with running , managing , scheming , projecting , consulting , training and education . As a result , we always attach great importance to cultivating comprehensive quality and vocational ability of students , besides teaching theory , we have established practical and experimental center , integrating situation teaching and examples with various research and courses internships , which will promote students analytical ability to practical situation . Our course adhere the policy of co-developing talents with the cooperation between school and enterprises , and we have established long-term cooperative relationships with several grand hotels , such as CTS Group InterContinental Hotels Group , Hilton Hotel Group , Howard Johnson International Hotel Group . A series of 5-stars hotels and tourist attractions become our outdoor internship base , we also have built teaching and scientific research relationships with Huaxi Village in Jiangyin city and Cloud Lake in Yixing city with the theme of planning and developing tourist destinations, investigating and exploiting of tourism resources . Our quality of talents cultivation is generally recognized by society , and employment rate is always 100 % .

Our students will also have international version , and have a command of the cores and theories of hotel management , who are capable of managing modern hotel . After graduation , students will be the high-quality interdisciplinary and applied specific talents who can do different work in the fields of tourism administration , tourism vocational schools , hotels and restaurants enterprises and some operation , management , scheme , project , consultancy , training , teaching , scientific research related to tourism , can also study for a masters degree .

Hotel Management

( 121 Sino-US international cooperative education project)

Training objectives :

We cooperate with a famous American university to set up this course and wanna to absorb beneficial educational concept form America , implementing bilingual teaching . This course is to cultivate the excellent talents who have overall development of moral , intellectual , physical and aesthetic aspects with stronger professional ability , are satisfying the needs of modern hotel industry and related industries , have better moral quality , humanity and academic quality .  Students will have humanity , international version , consciousness of innovation , the spirit of innovation , practical ability and social responsibility , and grasp the basic theory of modern hotel management and running and some basic knowledge and skills for industries related to service , who are capable of modern hotel management and get international certificated major . Meanwhile , students will have better psychological quality and pioneering and innovative ability of competing in the international market . Students will also have stronger social adaptive ability , and grasp English of listening , speaking , reading , writing and interpretation skillfully .
